Magnetic resonance imaging
With the help of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) it is possible to display cross-section images of anatomic conditions and pathological changes in the human body.
As similar to X-ray computed tomography, the data, concerning the investigation area, are recorded and converted into image information with the help of complicated calculating procedures. It is all done by means of a magnetic field and impulses sent into the area of interest (and received from this area), and that without exposing the patient to radiation.
The fields of application are, for example, the diagnostics of diseases of the brain, spinal cord, joints, heart and blood vessels. MRI may also help to detect the tumours of abdominal organs.
The advantages of MRI procedures:
MR angiography allows the depiction of blood vessels after injecting a contrast medium inside the blood vessel, as a rule, inside the arm vein. These images can otherwise be created in computed tomography or through invasive procedures (by means of a catheter, similar to a cardiac one). As opposed to MRI, both of them involve radiation exposure and certain risks (a catheter).
With the help of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) it is possible to perform a very detailed examination without the aid of invasive procedures (endoscopy).
Our range of MRI services:
- Examination of the head, neck, thorax and abdomen (belly, especially the depiction of liver, pancreas, kidneys and other pelvic organs, e.g. bladder, prostate)
- Musculoskeletal examinations (diagnostics in the area of spine and intervertebral discs, joints, bones and soft tissues/musculature)
- Production of MR angiograms (depiction of blood vessels after injecting a contrast medium inside the blood vessel, as a rule, inside the arm vein)
- E.g. blood vessels of the abdominal/pelvic/leg region, thorax and also head and neck region
- Hydro MRI (special bowel diagnostics, e.g. in patients having Crohn’s disease – a particular disease of the small/large intestine)
- Visualisation of the biliary tree (MRCP)
- Arthro MRI (MR examination after previous administration of a contrast medium into the joint, e.g. shoulder, under radiographic control)
- Cardiac MRI
We are planning to add the following examination method to our range of services:
- Whole-body MRI
